Do You Go To Bed Angry?

Don't go to bed angry

This verse is a beautiful instruction from God to protect our marriages. Have you ever pondered why the Lord commands us to not go to bed with anger in our hearts. When you do, you give satan a big advantage and a foothold in your marriage. How foolish is that? I use to do this all the time with my husband, until I found this verse and God began to speak to me about the protection this verse gives to my marriage….if I would just apply it.

In the past I would give the good old silent treatment and just roll over and fall asleep…..which lead to nothing really, just another day of misery.  My husband and I began to realize, even though it wasn’t easy to have the hard conversations late at night, to admit we were wrong or that we had a bad attitude and handled the situation poorly, we always managed to work it out and go to bed with love instead of anger.

On a more personal note:  At times the argument would be so intense that I felt I needed to process things. I would take time to separate myself and go for a drive or a walk or just go up to our bedroom-anything to just be still with the Lord. During this time I would press into the Lord and listen to Him and His guidance. I found, during this time, I was releasing my anger to the Lord (laying my burden at his feet) and it was only then I was able to see things more clearly and go and ask for forgiveness or just talk peacefully about the issue. God moved as I sought after Him and allowed me to see thing through His eyes. Sometimes it happened within 15 minutes of me being still with the Lord and sometimes it took several hours.

I can see it beautifully now how this verse does protect us. I hope as you ponder it, God will begin to speak to your heart and next time an argument/disagreement breaks out in your marriage that leaves you angry and bitter towards your spouse, you will think of this verse and allow God to soften your heart and you will “choose” to obey God’s command and work things out before you go to bed. You will be blessed for doing so. Be Love Give Love
